Senator JD Vance asked voters to allow Republicans another term in a recent podcast, a request that was widely mocked on social media as the midterm elections approach.
Senator JD Vance told listeners of the All-In podcast that Republicans should be given "another chance" to continue their work, saying the party had accomplished much but still had more to do. He urged voters not to hand power to those he described as "the people who cause the problems we’re fixing" and asked for another two years to build on recent achievements.
The remarks were quickly ridiculed on social platforms. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries posted on X, "Vance to America: Republicans have failed but give us another chance," and added a dismissive response. Former Vice President Kamala Harris, via a Gen-Z-focused X account, labeled the appeal as "begging for midterm votes."
Commentators and influencers also mocked the plea. Journalist Philip DeFranco noted the rapid shift in Vance’s tone, while comedian Mike Drucker criticized the request as a plea for more time after perceived failures. Influencer Hasan Piker responded with a brief "LMAO NO."
The criticism comes amid declining poll numbers for the Republican Party. An Ipsos survey conducted Sept. 11-14 with 1,143 adults found 49% strongly disapproved of President Donald Trump’s handling of the presidency, compared with 15% who strongly approved. Similarly, 50% strongly disapproved of his economic management, while only 11% expressed strong approval.
