Three dead, including suspected shooter, in South Cotabato school shooting
A shooting at a school in Banga, South Cotabato, left three people dead, including a 16-year-old suspect who died by self-inflicted gunshot, and injured eight other students.
At least three people were killed and eight students injured in a shooting at a school in Banga, South Cotabato, on Friday. The victims included two students and a 16-year-old suspect who reportedly shot himself after the attack, according to provincial governor Reynaldo Tamayo. Four of the injured remain in critical condition.
The incident is the third fatal school shooting in the Philippines since June, prompting authorities to emphasize that the situation is now under control. "For now, we are trying to let our fellow citizens know that the situation is stable and the case is contained," Tamayo said.
A video shared on social media captured a teacher mentioning two shooters and a student describing the assailants as outsiders. Local officials have not confirmed the number of attackers. The shooting follows recent nationwide shooter drills aimed at improving school security after two earlier incidents.
