Samsung reports 10% sales rise for Galaxy Z Fold 8 after Apple unveils iPhone Duo

Summary

South Korean data shows Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales increased by about 10% following the launch of Apple's iPhone Duo, driven by price differences and availability timing.

Samsung said its Galaxy Z Fold 8 saw a roughly 10% increase in sales in South Korea after Apple introduced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, at a recent event. The rise was reported by the Korean daily Chosun and attributed to consumers adopting a "wait and see" approach, comparing pricing and delivery timelines.

The report noted that the iPhone Duo is priced about 1 million won higher than the Fold 8, and the Duo’s 2 TB model costs around five million won, while the Fold 8 starts at 2.2 million won. In addition, the iPhone Duo is not expected to be widely available until October, whereas the Fold 8 is already on sale.

Samsung’s pre-order figures for the Fold 8 have also exceeded expectations, with inventory selling out online and the model outperforming the Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

"Making us wait? Fine. We'll be over here, folding 3 ways," a Samsung spokesperson said in response to Apple's launch, reflecting the competitive dynamic between the two manufacturers.
