Newsmax Files Antitrust Lawsuit Against Fox News Alleging Anti-Competitive Practices
Newsmax has initiated legal action against Fox News, accusing it of employing exclusionary tactics to suppress competition in the conservative news market.
Newsmax has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Fox News, alleging that Fox engaged in exclusionary and intimidating business practices to maintain its market dominance and suppress competition.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, claims that Fox coerced television distributors into limiting Newsmax's reach, pressured guests to avoid appearing on Newsmax, and hired private investigators to scrutinize Newsmax executives.
Newsmax's legal action seeks unspecified monetary damages and a court order to halt Fox's alleged anti-competitive behavior. The company contends that Fox's practices have delayed its growth in the pay-TV market over the past decade, reducing consumer choice in conservative media.
In response, Fox stated, "Newsmax cannot sue their way out of their own competitive failures in the marketplace to chase headlines simply because they can't attract viewers."
Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy emphasized that the lawsuit aims to restore fairness in the media marketplace and ensure that Americans have real choice in the news they watch.
The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee.
