President Trump's Stock Trades Exceed Those of All Congress Members Combined
A Bloomberg analysis shows President Trump and his managers executed roughly 28,700 stock trades in the past 17 months, surpassing the total disclosed trades by members of Congress.
President Donald Trump and his investment managers have carried out about 28,700 stock transactions over the last 17 months, according to a Bloomberg analysis, outpacing the 22,200 trades reported by all members of Congress combined. The data comes as a House Republican proposal seeks to prohibit trading by lawmakers and their families, while leaving the president exempt despite his ability to influence markets through policy decisions or social media statements.
Trump has voiced support for the proposed restrictions, stating in his State of the Union address that the legislation should be passed promptly so Congress "cannot corruptly profit from using insider information." The White House maintains that the president's portfolio is managed independently, but ethics experts caution that even trades made without insider knowledge can create the appearance of a conflict of interest. Bloomberg identified around 20 instances where Trump purchased shares in companies shortly after publicly promoting them, including DoorDash, Nvidia and Tesla.
