Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets New Domestic Box-Office Record
Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film ever in the North American market, overtaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens after 47 days in theaters.
Sony Pictures' superhero film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached $936.8 million in domestic ticket sales, making it the top-grossing movie ever in North America. The milestone was achieved 47 days after the film’s July 31 release, surpassing the previous record of $936.6 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The movie also became the fastest title to reach each major domestic earnings threshold from $400 million to $900 million and now ranks third on the worldwide all-time list behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.
The film, produced by Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal. It has led the domestic box office for its first six weekends and, according to a recent report, has overtaken Avengers: Endgame for the second-place spot on the domestic chart.
“Doesn’t get bigger than this,” the film’s official Instagram account wrote, thanking fans for helping the movie become the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day also set a new record for the biggest opening weekend in the United States with $360 million, posted the highest-grossing first-week total, and became the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion in global earnings. Its performance contributed to the summer of 2026 becoming the highest-grossing season worldwide, with a total of $4.765 billion, surpassing the previous record set in 2013.
Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman told The Hollywood Reporter that the studio’s challenge after the 2021 hit Spider-Man: No Way Home was to “go deeper” rather than simply trying to make a larger spectacle, focusing on audience experience.
