Five missing women linked to Philadelphia home investigation

Summary

Police say five women who disappeared between 2012 and 2023 are now connected to a probe centered on a home in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood, where 44-year-old Eugene Horsch is under investigation.

Philadelphia police have linked five missing women to an ongoing investigation focused on a residence in the Olney neighborhood. The women include Nicole Fusaro, 27, who vanished in 2018; Gabrielle Amarando, 22, who disappeared in 2012; Maribel Fresses, 27, also missing since 2018; Blair Tonzelli, 35, who was last seen in 2023; and Amy McHale, 44, who disappeared in 2016. Detectives say images and video recovered from the home show the latter two women appearing deceased, though their bodies have not been found.

The probe centers on 44-year-old Eugene Horsch, who has been in federal custody on firearms charges since his arrest in June. At the time of his arrest, a woman presented an identification card bearing Tonzelli’s name, and she told police that Horsch had given her the ID. McHale’s family reported she was last seen at the home.

Investigators say the case began after a federal park ranger observed a black BMW parked illegally on Independence Mall on June 19 and, upon questioning, was handed the Tonzelli ID. Subsequent searches of the property uncovered chemicals, drugs, firearms, ballistic evidence, a 55-gallon drum linked to water lines, and an underground pipe that is being tested for forensic evidence.

Authorities also recovered a handwritten note referencing serial killer Ted Bundy and methods for disposing of trash, though the note was unsigned. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel indicated that an update on the investigation could be provided within the week.
