Senator Mitch McConnell Returns to Senate Floor After Three-Month Hospital Stay

सारांश

Mitch McConnell cast his first Senate vote since a June fall, signalling his return to legislative duties despite ongoing health recovery.

Senator Mitch McConnell resumed his Senate duties on Monday, casting his first vote since a fall in June that required a three-month hospital stay. The 84-year-old Republican leader said on social media that he was “looking forward to being back on the Senate floor” and pledged to be present for upcoming votes that the party deems critical.

"I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues," McConnell wrote on the platform X.

He acknowledged that he is not yet fully recovered, noting lingering effects from childhood polio that complicate his rehabilitation, but affirmed his intent to attend future sessions when needed.

McConnell’s absence had raised concerns within the Republican caucus, which holds a narrow 53-47 majority, as Democrats used the window to pass a resolution opposing President Donald Trump’s policy toward Iran, with four Republicans joining them. The Kentucky senator, the longest-serving Senate leader in U.S. history, had announced last year that he will not seek an eighth term.
