NFL power rankings ahead of Week 2 place Bills on top
The Buffalo Bills lead the updated NFL power rankings after a 36-31 win over the Texans, while the league’s analysts highlighted standout non-quarterback newcomers from each team.
The Buffalo Bills sit at the top of the NFL power rankings entering Week 2 after defeating the Houston Texans 36-31 in the season opener. The rankings, compiled by a panel of more than a dozen analysts, evaluate all 32 clubs based on performance and schedule strength. The Bills, who were ranked third in the preseason poll, moved up with a high-scoring win that featured wide receiver DJ Moore’s 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens follow in second and third place, respectively. Seattle earned a 13-10 victory over the New England Patriots, while Baltimore beat the Indianapolis Colts 41-23. Both teams were praised for defensive contributions from recent acquisitions, including safety Rodney Thomas II for Seattle and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for Baltimore.
The Los Angeles Rams, despite a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, remain in the top five after trading for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie, who limited opponents to 22 yards on four targets. The 49ers, San Francisco’s next-ranked team, secured a win over the Rams and saw veteran wideout Mike Evans add a touchdown.
Analysts also identified a non-quarterback newcomer who made an impact for each franchise during Week 1. Highlights include Texans running back David Montgomery’s three touchdowns, Vikings defensive tackle Domonique Orange’s goal-line stop, and Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Kwity Paye’s two sacks.
The rankings continue down the list, with teams such as the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars occupying mid-range positions, while the Cleveland Browns close out the bottom after a 34-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"Man, first NFL game, [he] came out of the gates on fire," Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said of offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.
"That's going to be our identity," Texans running back David Montgomery said after his debut.
"I thought Anthony flew around," Titans coach Robert Saleh commented on rookie linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.’s performance.
The power rankings will be updated weekly as teams play their second games and the schedule evolves.
